Monterey Peace and Justice Center

MONTEREY PEACE AND JUSTICE CENTER

Mariposa Hall
801 Lighthouse Ave, Suite 102, Monterey, CA. 93940
831-373-1061

Open to the public from 1:00 to 5:00 pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The opening of the Monterey Peace and Justice Center in April 2004
culminated nearly forty years of peace advocacy in Monterey County
by groups such as Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom,
United Nations Association, Sane-Freeze, Veterans for Peace, and more.
The Peace Coalition of Monterey County, a promoter of the center,
is composed of twenty-two local organizations.

The Center is a community resource where educational materials
relating to war and peace and other social issues are available.
The Center contains an interesting library of books, DVDs and video-tapes
and can provide meeting space for small groups.

The Monterey Peace and Justice Center seeks to promote
coalition-building with environmental, human rights and labor groups.
The Center is designed to promote a culture of peace and justice
in our own community and the world.

Inquiries about the center, or offers to volunteer help
may be addressed to the Center’s Executive Director:

Karen Araujo at the number above or 601-4564.
For information on the New Directions Film Series, contact Helen
For information about the Youth Rights* project, contact Carole

The Monterey Peace and Justice Center happily accepts donations
of used public interest films or books on peace and justice topics.
DVDs can be previewed at the Center before they are checked out.

Monterey Peace and Justice Center  is considering creating
a directory of local businesses that are supportive/friendly
to the peace and justice movement.
Suggestions?  Maybe you have such a business?

Beloved supporters of the Monterey Peace and Justice Center:

The Peace and Justice Center is sustained by annual donations
or pledged monthly donations from its supporters.
While most donations are small, they keep the Center going.
Expenses are minimal because of the dedicated cadre of volunteers.

In December of 2005 the Board of MPJC launched a membership organization
called FRIENDS OF THE MONTEREY PEACE AND JUSTICE CENTER
so as to encourage donors to be part of the process
of bringing ideas to the Center and helping it to grow.
Will you become a
FRIEND?

Special offer: FRIENDS of MPJC donating $35 or more
may select a gift book, dvd, or videotape
at the Monterey Peace and Justice Center.
Many titles to choose from.
The goal of our membership drive is to afford a larger space
where we can host meetings and show films.

Become a Friend of the Monterey Peace and Justice Center.
All donations are tax-deductible.

Write checks to MPJC. Write “Friends” in the memo line.
Mail to P.O. Box 1851, Monterey, CA 93942-1851.
Monthly pledges needed and welcome.
Call your pledge to Sylvia (treasurer) 484-9747.
Or bring your donation to the Center
Thursday, Friday, or Saturday between 1 and 5 pm,
give it to the volunteer and select your gift.

The Monterey Peace and Justice Center has dvd and vhs copies
of the video Ground Truth, which it would like to distribute widely
to high schools and youths everywhere as a counter-recruitment tool.
The film is a series of interviews with soldiers who have been in Iraq
telling of their experiences there
and their encounters with veterans’ services on return.
Call 373-1061.

The Monterey Peace and Justice Center is a separate entity
from the Peace Coalition of Monterey County
and from the multitude of organizations that make up the Coalition.
It is anticipated that it will serve those organizations in a variety of ways.
The Monterey Peace and Justice Center has a Board of Directors,
and is a non-profit organization with 501(c)(3) status so that all donations are tax-deductible.
